This travel sketchbook is a collection of drawings in pen and ink, watercolor and marker that I made on location during a trip through Bali, Cambodia and Thailand.
Its illustrative nature focuses on what modern long distance travel really is: An experience of the local tourism industry and the foreign culture primarily as presented by this industry. This is the cosmos I made those drawings in.
A large and amusing part of the travel experience is witnessing tourists on their journey. Their behavior. Their perception. Their preferences and needs that are catered to. In the end I am one of them – it’s obvious when my 4 year old son needs to go poo in the middle of majestic Angkor Wat. 🙂
This travel sketchbook packages these often ironic aspects of modern traveling into a lighthearted, humorous, illustration driven visual essay. It is currently focused on one trip through SE Asia, but could be extended with related observations from other journeys.
I am very much interested in opening a conversation how my journal(s) could become available to a wider audience with the help of a publisher.
