Synopsis:
Oliver, a 38 year old scientist-turned-illustrator and his scientist wife Eva, live with their toddler son Jakob in San Francisco. This is going to be the year – Oliver is eager to develop his professional niche!
But when a routine exam turns into a colon cancer diagnosis for Oliver, all plans must change. In order to maintain a sense of control over his life, Oliver decides to draw his experiences. We are there as he undergoes chemotherapy, radiation, surgery and more chemotherapy and learn about the experiences and changes in the everyday that affects his family’s life on many levels.
Narrated from both Eva’s and Oliver’s perspective, we see how their different challenges weave together into this episodic story of suffering, alienation and bravery. But it doesn’t stop there – their personal account is cleverly put into the larger context of the History of Cancer.
Follow them on their journey as we learn about historical treatments for Cancer, all the way to what Oliver’s stoma feels like. Why is it so hard to pin down causes for specific cancers? And why is it a liberating experience for Eva when Oliver throws up in public transport?
A story told candidly yet full of humor and irony that opens a new horizon, informs, entertains and comforts. All in one. For everyone.
